7. Juan Obando Pro-Revolution

Juan Obando’s artistic practice focuses on the critical intervention of social circuits through the orchestration of temporary situations and the manipulation of vestiges found in contemporary digital culture. For his  show Pro Revolution at Espacio Odeón, Montana Gulbrand created a series of images to exist as social media posts and posters that function to publicize the gallery opening while simultaneously presenting the central concepts and research that lay the foundation for ProRevolution.

8. UMass. Boston Book Cover

Designed the front and back cover for the HARD: Subversive Representation exhibition catalog - a group show at the University Hall Gallery at University of Massachusetts Boston. The cover design grew out of the complex and compelling images and sculptures presenting depictions of transgender, cisgender, and non gender normative female subjects. By juxtaposing balance, asymmetry,  and layering striking images and outlined type, the composition straddles feeling both simple, complex, hard, and soft — reflecting the diverse perspectives of the work presented within the catalog itself.

10. Multicultural Arts Center Branding

Branding for the Multicultural Arts Center under previous director. Project was tabled with retirement due to Covid. Center did not have a scannable ticketing system, printable calander, or gallery flyer template, or a recurring visual language.

Rather than to attempt to embody multiculturism in the branding itself, Montana chose to strip back any idicators of one or many cultures in order to let the diversity of the artists, performers, and their work shine. Additionally, the rebrand hoped to pull away from the heavy use of blue and orange in order to reduce visual clashing from event to event and allow the gallery artists and performers work to create most of the visual interest.

The prior branding was confusing because it centered its visual identity around an architectural ceiling ornament which was seldom observed in the dark of the theatre. This project sought to minimize that confusion while also incorporating text and image grids that technology resistant staff could easily manipulate or copy/paste into . The end result felt more contemporary and spoke to a wider age of arts enthusiasts.
